Create a Flip Book

Bring your drawings to life in a flip book.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

PostItNotes

STEP 1
TIME: 1 MINUTE

Gather Supplies

1. Find some markers

2. Find a small notepad or staple together some paper to make your own small notepad.

Notepad and Markers
Pass out sticky pads or staple together 15-30 small pieces of paper for each member. Distribute markers, crayons, or pens. To make this activity easier, let members use ink and rubber stamps to create their designs.

STEP 2
TIME: 5 MINUTES

What could you animate?

What can you draw really easily?

To make a flip book, you’ll need to draw the same thing 15-30 times with tiny changes each time to make your drawing look like it is moving. Watch this video as an example.

Help members brainstorm the types of things they could easily draw: like a bouncing ball, a flying bird, a growing flower, or a shining sun.

STEP 3
TIME: 20 MINUTES

Start drawing on the last page.

Draw the first drawing on the last page of your flip book. Remember, this is where your story starts.

Draw something similar on the second to last page. Keep drawing like this so that your drawings change a little bit from page to page.

Remind your members that each drawing should be slightly different than the previous drawing.

STEP 4
TIME: 5 MINUTES

Title your flip book and test it out!

When you reach your last drawing (on the first page of your notepad), write a title. Flip through your flip book to see your animated drawings!
