STEP 1
TIME: 5 MINUTES

Making the Big Pitch

Take a little time to ask your friends or look online for ideas about what makes a presentation interesting and effective. How do you know a great speaker when you hear one? What’s the best presentation you’ve ever heard? Have you ever given a great one yourself?
If members are working in groups, this can be a great group discussion. If not, you can combine this activity with the next one and ask members to look up presentation examples and suggestions on their own.

STEP 2
TIME: 15 MINUTES

Watch a Few Presentations

There are a lot of great ways to give an amazing presentation. Usually presenters are well-prepared, have exciting things to share and find ways to engage the audience.

Look up some examples of presentations online, especially idea pitches. What are your favorites? What do those videos have in common?

Having trouble finding some great examples? Take a look at TED Talks like these:

A 12-Year-Old App Developer

A Teen Talks About His Radical Plans for Small Nuclear Fission Reactors

Click here to explore the TED Talks website and see more great presentations.

If you have access to a projector and speakers, load and play a compelling talk by Steve Jobs or a TED presenter. You may also want to find other great speakers that will resonate well with your members.

Examples:

Steve Jobs Announces The First iPhone in 2007

A TED Talk Playlist: 11 Talks By Adventurers Who Have Pushed Themselves to the Limit

Talk about the video(s). What can members learn by watching? What do they take away from the presentations? As the video played, did members notice any of the themes mentioned earlier (like things that make a presentation effective)?

STEP 3
TIME: 30 MINUTES

Create Your Presentation

To get people interested in your app, you’ll have to have a good way to tell others about it. Remember what appeals to you about other presentations and think about what you need others to know about your app.

You can create your presentation however you’d like, using all your favorite ideas, but remember that it has to be easy for the audience to understand. You can use presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi or Google Slides to help organize your ideas.

Have your members start thinking about who will attend their presentations.

Help members access PowerPoint, Prezi or Google Slides depending on your preferred method of presenting and available equipment.

Help members start building their presentations as needed.
